PALAZZO MADAMA
Roman palace rich in history, seat of the Senate of the Italian Republic.
Palazzo Madama is the seat of the Senate of the Italian Republic. Completed in 1505 by Cardinal Giovanni de' Medici, the future Pope Leo X, the palace was designated the Roman seat of the de' Medici family, where the future Queen of France Catherine de' Medici often stayed. With the political decline of the Medici, the palace passed into the hands of the Habsburgs and the pontificate until 1837. Please note: the Senate can be visited for special events. Visits on the first Saturday of the month are suspended at the time of updating this guide.
