POÇO DA NEVE (SNOW PIT)

2 km southeast of Pico do Arieiro and 4.5 km northwest of the Poiso Pass. The site is indicated by a small sign from the road. It is a unique example of a "glacier" well that remains from the time when snow was stored. Built in 1813, it is 8 m deep and could hold up to 265^m3 of ice. It looks like a huge igloo with its stone dome standing in an open environment at 1,650 meters above sea level. Beautiful natural space
