The Funchal thermal power station, which was established in 1897 by a British company, Madeira Electric Lighting Company Limited, was decommissioned in 1989. It was then transformed into a museum housing machines from the beginning of the last century and showing the evolution of the island's electrical installation (from the time when the streets of Funchal were lit by oil lamps). Some playful and interactive installations will amuse the children.
