In the spring, Funchal transforms itself into a grandiose floral show. It is the long awaited Flower Festival.

An ode to spring, the Flower Festival is one of the most important festivities in the Madeiran calendar. Firstly because of its size and success and because it celebrates Madeira's exuberant floral heritage. It starts with the raising of the Wall of Hope: the children parade to place their flowers and form a monumental floral work. Carpets of flowers cover the pavements and the island's most beautiful flowers are displayed on every street corner. The high point of the festival takes place on Sunday during the great allegorical procession, an explosion of colour!

Nous n'avons pas vu le défilé de chars fleuris mais les festivités duraient jusqu'au 13 mai avec des danses folkloriques, des dégustations en face du parc municipal, présence des miss locales, décorations diverses, magnifique exposition de fleurs, etc.
