Shaped like a pentagon, it is one of the many forts built in Malta under Queen Victoria in the 19th century. A museum has been set up inside the fort, featuring period military costumes and furniture, as well as one of the world's largest cannons (100 tons, 10 m long, 44 cm caliber), capable of firing a one-ton projectile over 5 km and piercing up to 50 cm of armor. Every afternoon at 2.30pm, a historical re-enactment brings the cannon and its Victorian garrison to life.
