Site of the ancient Greek city of Ourania/Aphendrika. Ruins of three Byzantine basilicas and foundations of medieval houses.
This poorly maintained archaeological site (Aphendrika, Αφέντρικα Παναγία/Aphendrika Panagia) groups together three ruined Byzantine basilicas built and rebuilt between the 6th and 16th centuries. They stand on the site of Ourania/Ουρανία, a city "of heaven" founded in the 2nd century BC, renamed Aphendrika and destroyed during an Ottoman raid in 1363. In addition to the churches of Agios Georgios (10th century), Panagia Chrysiotissa (6th century) and Agios Asomatos (6th century), the foundations of a dozen medieval houses are visible.
