OLD MARKET OF FAMAGUSTA

This ancient market (Bandabuliya, Λαϊκή Αγορά/Laïki Agora) was built by the Venetians in the ^16th century, modified by the British, abandoned in 1980, then restored in 2012 with UN support. Today, it houses souvenir stores, cafés-restaurants and a cultural space with library, exhibition and concert hall. Its Turkish name, bandabuliya, is derived from the Greek pantopolio, meaning "all types of stores".
