ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF TAMASSOS

This small site (Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Ταμασσού/Archaiologikos Choros Tamassou) is little promoted, but you can visit two majestic underground tombs from the ^6th century B.C. Mentioned in Homer'sOdyssey, Tamassos was one of the twelve city-states of Cyprus. Founded by the Assyrians in the ^7th century BC, the city derived its wealth from the copper mines of the Troodos. The site also contains the remains of a temple probably dedicated to Aphrodite.
