Exceptional upscale hotel in the heart of the valley with rustic architecture and design atmosphere

Exceptional upscale hotel in the heart of Yosemite Valley. It is a historic establishment, which opened its doors in 1927. Its deliberately rustic architecture, mainly made of stone and wood, blends perfectly with the surrounding nature. Its ambiance is designer, with both Art Deco and Native American inspirations. The hotel alone is worth the trip, not necessarily to stay there, but simply for curiosity and to enjoy the atmosphere in the tea room, the bar or the souvenir store.

Took my wife and mother here for lunch in the main dining room. I have dined here numerous times when it was the Ahwahnee and always had an outstanding experience. The service was impeccable as always and the views breathtaking. I have to say though, the food was incredibly disappointing. The menu lacked any creativity and I know it's a 4 star hotel but $21.50 for a basic Reuben sandwich with crappy frozen fries is a bit much. We ended up ordering a burger with a house made poppy seed bun, a shrimp Cobb salad and a grilled chicken sandwich with the same poppy seed bun. We received our food and neither the burger or sandwich had the house made poppy seed bun, it was a low quality gross bun that came from Sysco. Also, the burger was over cooked and underseasoned. The chicken sandwich was basic. The fries were frozen shoe string fries and worse than what you would get at a fast food restaurant. The Cobb salad was underwhelming and the shrimp consisted of a half cup of cold, boiled tiny shrimp....smaller than popcorn shrimp. I was expecting nice sized, grilled shrimp. The dressing for the Cobb was a Louie dressing which was really just a cheap version of 1000 island. Not a Louie dressing at all, it lacked the chili sauce, scallions and anything else that would have made it interesting. We also had 1 cup of hot tea, 1 beer and the bill was $86 before tip! I don't mind paying more for an amazing meal but this was just plain awful. I honestly could have had a better, tastier meal at Chili's and I detest chain restaurants. I am disheartened at how such an incredible landmark that previously had one of the most superb restaurants went downhill. Ever since Aramark took over the hotels, restaurants and concessions in Yosemite, the quality, cleanliness and overall experience has gone down the drain. Hopefully a new company will take over soon and restore Yosemite and the Ahwahnee(it's rightful name) back to its original glory.

The Ahwahnee Hotel

Striking granite facade, magnificent log-beamed ceilings, massive stone hearths, richly colored Native American artwork on, and finely appointed rooms should make this a shining example of what what is considered to be the premier lodge in the Yosemite area (It is not - shame in you, Aramark. But you should see it anyway)

The Ahwahnee Hotel is located in the majestic, jaw-dropping main valley inside Yosemite Park near the base of Half Dome and Glacier Point. This hotel, built-in 1927, is a National Historic Landmark and should be one of the most distinctive resort hotels in North America. You will find the Ahwahnee Hotel in the center of Yosemite Valley, an ideal location to view Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, and Glacier Point.

Completed in 1927, The Ahwahnee Hotel features a blend of design influences including Art Deco, Native American, Middle Eastern, and Arts & Crafts Movements. These elements can be seen in every aspect of the hotel including stenciling, woodwork, lighting fixtures, and china patterns. Every room is designed for comfort and visual delight and reflects the natural surroundings and Native American influence of Yosemite's past.

Some of the most well-loved aspects of The Ahwahnee Hotel are its grand public spaces featuring giant stone fireplaces, massive hand-stenciled beams, rich tapestries, and elegant stained glass.

Aramark needs to implement Disney Training and also hire more staff. That’s all I have to say. Such a grand old lady needs care????????

I went to a buffet here that cost around 60 dollars per person, and guests could eat as much as they wanted. There was a variety of dishes, but the cuisine was somewhat dull. I tried to eat a lot, but ended up feeling too full and falling asleep.
