It is known for the reflection of the mountains in its turquoise water and its famous trout, but also for its unusual history. The lake known to the Indians as Wit-sa-nap was renamed "convict" by settlers after an incident on September 23, 1871, when a group of escaped convicts fled to the lake and were shot at. You can walk or ride around the lake.
