POINT ARENA LIGHTHOUSE

A short drive down to the ocean will take you to the Point Arena Lighthouse, which is essential due to the continuous fog along the California coast. Built in 1870, the original building was destroyed in the great earthquake of 1906. After its reconstruction, the building was used as a set for several movies, including Forever Young (1992) starring Mel Gibson. It is not uncommon to come across some couples about to get married. Guided tours are offered daily, every 20 minutes or so, from 10:15 am to 4 pm.
