Visited for the first time on today from Chicago. The menu was a bit pricey. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. The Waffle was just OK and the Fried Chicken could have been crispier. Definitely not worth $22. Also, they do not accept credit cards. Cash App or Venmo only.

Good place to get breakfast/brunch without breaking the bank. The biscuits were hot fresh & soft on the inside. Corned beef hash and croquettes were also very tasty. The plain white rice could use some type of sauce/gravy but also pairs well with either the hash or croquettes.

Enjoyed chicken and waffles (thin style). The key lime pie I took home was to die for. You have to order ahead to get the sweet potato cheesecake which I hear is very good.

Chicken had no seasoning. Waffle was thin.

Over all we probably won't visit again but I am grateful for the experience.
The yams taste like nutmeg with no other flavor, the Mac and cheese needs salt and cheese, they didn't have cabbage or black eyed peas ready. Greens had an interesting flavor, that's all I can say. Corn muffins were food and my hunny said the ribs were ok. Catfish was delicious!
The waitress seemed very stressed and overwhelmed which of course meant our service was a bit slow which is fine, we paid and left.

My grits shud have been cooked longer. I asked for crispy pork chops with extra seasoning, non of that happened. My chops were super thick and needed seasoning. My orange juice had ice in it. Real OJ drinkers know that's not ok.

What a lovely breakfast spot! We went early on a Saturday and had a fantastic breakfast. The chicken in the chicken and waffles was SO FRESH. Don't forget to try the pie! We shared a slice of the raspberry key lime pie and it blew me away. Just a note that it's cash only. Lots of free street parking nearby.

First time here. Found this place from an instagram post. Yes. All the way from Washington, DC. But now I live in the Bay Area. I feel at home here coming from the east coast. This is the food spot.

Came here 1/28/24. Me and my lady came in and the service was great. It's good to come into a breakfast spot and have good food service and music. The music was a vibe as well. Definitely coming back.

This place has amazing breakfast, especially enjoyed the hotcakes and hotlinks! The hotcake was really fluffy and tasty. The texture of the eggs are noteworthy as well they were delicately cooked to perfection with exceptional scrambled creaminess. Hashbrowns and bacon was good too I love the crispy way they cooked them. Will have to come back to this place and try the pie next time I'm in town for sure.

Had porkchops with grits, eggs. Apple juice! This lasted me 2 days and I was satisfied. The quality is good the service was great.. no complaints here. It's a older place but I looked at photographs of famous ppl while waiting for food. Just nostalgic... I'd return

The ambiance is that of genuine and authentic soul food with southern hospitality. The history behind the legendary and authentic family dishes is truly exceptional. I highly recommend the fresh fried chicken along with the waffles.
The place does get crowded- so get there early. Very historic landmark area.
Corey is always cheerful and welcoming. Totally worth the drive.

EXPENSIVE. $20 for a waffle with fruit? Or for an omelette? I cannot understand why the prices are so high. Maybe the owners are trying to capitalize on the history of the diner, but it makes it unrealistic for the average person to eat here. It’s a shame.

I enjoyed myself. The food was delicious. It wasn’t that busy at all. I had scrambled eggs, fried chicken and hash browns. My husband had pork chops, scrambled eggs with cheese w/pecan waffle. There’s no parking lot for parking that I saw. But there was street parking in front. There were no stairs to walk up. It would accommodate a wheelchair.

Soul food to the core specially when chef Carlos is there cooking Sunday Dinners are packed with flavor Cat fish, smoother chicken with gravy, smoother steak with gravy corn, potato salad, corn bread or biscuits i suggest you go on a Sunday but everyday they have a large variety of breakfast our favorites are the Reggie Jackson special with smoothered porkchops the home made gravy hits the spot, besides the food great service great history and family owned enjoy ????????????????. oh yeah of course the pies ???? ????

Okay.... breakfast? Absolutely the place to eat in Oakland. The fried chicken waffle plate was a kick. Add the fried pork chops to it.. or should I say poke chops.... ummmmm ..... oh wait... and add the hot sauce to pork chop: heaven. Your mama is up for a challenge. I ain't kidding. I had two breakfast plates... chicken and pork chops. Yes I did. And I did not take anything home.
Oh snap wait... I forget about the salmon croquettes.... lord have mercy.... you've got to try it.
I must say: it's not the cheapest place but it's very worth it...
This is a "Must eat at" if you're visiting. Its like a waffle house to Georgia. You can't visit Oakland and not make a stop at lois... that'll be so wrong...

Great food. Nice and pleasant staff. I'm glad this place survived the pandemic. My wife was pleased with the fried chicken and waffles, I got the Reggie Jackson. Simple comfort food done right.
