This was the third or fourth time I've stayed here. It's a solid option in Berkeley and I'd stay here again.
Positives:
+: Check-in was speedy and the staff person was pleasant.
+: The bathroom has a fan.
+: The bed is comfortable.
+: There are plenty of plugs to charge your electronics.
+: The location is great for many restaurants and the UC campus.
Mix of Good and Bad:
~: There's a fridge! Great. But it's weirdly lit up, so you have to decide for a bright nightlight of a fridge or not cooling your stuff.
~: There's a gym, but it's super tiny. The machines (1 rower, 1 treadmill, 1 elliptical, and 1 bike) are all in good condition and there are free weights, but it's the size of one small hotel room, so hope no one else is in there. Also not good air circulation.
Negatives:
-: Nearby overnight parking is insanely expensive.
-: There was a weird on-and-off buzz in our room that the engineering team wasn't able to get rid of. We were offered another room, but had already unpacked, so we just dealt with it.
-: The hotel is pet-friendly, and someone's wet dog left the elevator smelling not-so-fresh.

I have enjoyed much my stay at this hotel.
Personnel was very helpfull and friendly.
My room was nice.
Unfortunately I can't say the same about Zino the hotel restaurant.

This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Berkeley University. It was built in the 1900s and has been newly renovated and opulent style. Extremely classy with the most helpful service, staff, and all departments from the doorman to guest services and the restaurant. The only complaint I would have is that I had a view of broken concrete and construction zone, which started loud noises pretty early in the morning. The the food and the beverages were top shelf.

This hotel is my favorite downtown Berkeley experience. The staff is wonderful, from check-in to the bar.

Good hotel in the heart of downtown Berkeley. Centrally located for anything you need to do in Berkeley. Clean and comfy.

Staff and management are beyond amazing. They were incredibly nice and helpful to us, even when fixing mistakes that were 100% our fault. Rooms are small but clean and well appointed.
The only reason I had to dock a star for rooms was that we stayed on the 2nd floor and there was apparently a homeless person staying in one of the rooms right off the elevator. Not sure if it is a voucher program or what but the smell was unmistakable and overwhelming. Luckily our room was far down the hall, but it was always a bummer coming back to the hotel.

The hotel is in a great location, but it's outdated and the hallways have a smell of moss or sewage.
Also the hotel doesn't issue receipts and claims they will email them to you later, but they never follow through.

The service was GREAT all around, really friendly staff! Perfect location for our concert needs. The beds were comfortable, the pillows the right kind of squishy but solid cushiony. Rooms were different sizes, and even though we had the smallest out of the three couples, it was plenty of room for my wife and I. The elevator was a smooth ride. The Keurig machine and coffee was a pleasant surprise, as was the big panel to plug into the TV with different kinds of input.
Our friends enjoyed the breakfast, and all of us enjoyed the bar. We're definitely coming back here and staying more nights, and recommended it to the rest of our friends for their next visit.
Just know you gotta park nearby in one of the garages or rent a spot, because they don't currently have parking.

The explanation provided by the hotel that "this is a fault of a third party" are very far from true as I made the booking in a service where the hotel is responsible for the invoice. I also informed the hotel about the required invoice one week before the arrival - this all can be seen in the reservation description. I do not know how companies in the US do their "tax optimization" but provisioning services without invoice nor receipt is not something I could recommend anyone to participate in.
