Invercargill's main museum is dedicated to the region's past and to Maori culture, art and heritage. The collections cover the whole of Southland's human and natural history. Don't miss the vivarium's tuataras, an endangered species of slow-growing reptiles that have begun to reproduce in captivity. The museum is under construction until the end of 2026. He Waka Tuia, Te Moutere - Tuatara Island and Tuatara Trail are open.
