Nelson Lakes National Park is located in the Nelson/Tasman region. The gateway to the park is St Arnaud, a 1-2 hour drive from Nelson or Blenheim. The park offers many activities, including walks in the beech forest of the Rotoiti Nature Reclamation Project, where numerous birds such as meliphagous, fantails and kaka can be seen. Water skiing is permitted on Lake Rotoiti, but not on Lake Rotoroa. Speed limits apply close to shore. Jet skis and hovercraft are not allowed on lakes and rivers, and jet boats are not allowed on rivers. Anchoring at night is prohibited. Both lakes are ideal for trout fishing.
