Located just outside the city center, Mount Victoria is one of Wellington's must-sees. Very popular with the locals, it's a meeting place for walkers, runners and mountain bikers - but beware, they go fast downhill! It was here that Peter Jackson filmed the very first shots of his Lord of the Rings in 1999! Numerous trails criss-cross the hill and you'll often come across tūī, kākā or piwakawaka. The summit rises to 197 m, and the view from the viewing platform is unquestionably one of the best in the city.
