An icon of the region, many New Zealanders have fond memories of this hotel. An address so emblematic that the cast of The Lord of the Rings stayed here during the filming of the Mordor scenes nearby!
Unfortunately, the hotel closed its doors in 2023, as it no longer met seismic standards. Its future is uncertain, but the news has aroused so much sadness and calls to save the building that it would seem surprising if it were not one day reinvested in one way or another. To be continued!

Quel dommage. Beaucoup de potentiel pour être un Grand Hotel. Je le classe comme un trois étoiles. Le cadre est enchanteur au pied des montagnes au parc national de Tongariro avec une vue incroyable. Les espaces communes montrent des signes de fatigue. La chambre n'est pas mieux qu'un vieux Best Western ou in vieux Ibis Budget. Le spa et le "dipping pool" sont tellement décevant, surtout après une belle marche de "Tongariro Alpine Crossing".

Un hôtel idéalement situé près du Visitor Center et du départ des différentes randonnées. Chambres charmantes et très confortables. L'hôtel dispose de plusieurs restaurants pour tous les budgets, et on y mange très bien. Le personnel est attentionné. Seul bémol, l'ensemble est un rien vieillot mais cela lui donne aussi du charme !
