This vast, serene pool, dominated by a building, comes alive once a year during the great Timkat festival.

A vast pool surrounded by walls and dominated by a multi-storey building is attributed to King Fasiladas. Its primary function, as a place of relaxation or ceremony, is unclear. Surrounded by imposing trees, the serene site comes alive once a year for the great Timkat festival. This is where the procession comes to an end, before the participants splash themselves abundantly with the waters of the pool, filled for the occasion, in commemoration of Christ's baptism. Admission to the baths is included in the price of a ticket to the walled city.

Lieu agréable et magique
J ai eu l occasion de visiter le site en fin de journée avec de magnifiques lumières du soleil. Le lieu inspire la quiétude, les racines des arbres qui poussent sur les murs en pierre sont aussi très belles. Le bassin est vide mais on imagine très bien comment il peut être rempli d eau pour célébrer le Timkat!

La "piscine" n'est rempli qu'un jour dans l'année au moment du Timkat. Le reste du temps on ne voit que le bâtiment central sans eau. Toutefois le cadre est très agréable: inséparables, ibis, belle lumières, mur d'enceinte rempli de beaux arbres aux grandes racines.
