COLD WAR MUSEUM

This is the site of a former Soviet missile base. Built in 1962, at the height of the Cold War, the base comprised silos housing four 23-metre-high R12 missiles. These missiles were designed to hit Western countries, and their target was changed every three or four years. Intended to last between ten and fifteen years, they were withdrawn from the base after sixteen years, in 1978. The base has now been converted into this fascinating museum.
