Part of St. Mary's Parish, Patterson is a small town of less than 6,000 people on the Cajun Coast and located about 10 miles west of Morgan City. Its main point of interest is the Wedell-Williams Aviation & Cypress Sawmill Museum, a museum of the Louisiana State Museum, which operates several other museums in the state. This museum is dedicated to James "Jimmy" Robert Wedell and Harry P. Williams and their legacy in aviation and the cypress wood industry. People also come to Patterson for its swamp tours, especially those offered by Captain Caviar, which are well known in Louisiana.
