FORT PIKE STATE HISTORIC SITE

Located before the Rigolet Bridge on Route 90 leading to the Mississippi River, this fort, or rather what remains of it, is part of the^3rd group of fortifications erected between 1816 and 1867 to protect the city from both land and sea attacks. Although it was used for training troops and holding prisoners, not a single cannon shot was ever fired. It was officially abandoned in 1890 and entered the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
