National Register of Historic Places fort located before the Rigolet Bridge on Highway 90 leading to the Mississippi River
Located before the Rigolet Bridge on Route 90 leading to the Mississippi River, this fort, or rather what remains of it, is part of the3rd group of fortifications erected between 1816 and 1867 to protect the city from both land and sea attacks. Although it was used for training troops and holding prisoners, not a single cannon shot was ever fired. It was officially abandoned in 1890 and entered the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
