French colonial style house just across from Bayou St. John offering a walking tour to be reserved on the website.
French colonial style house built in 1799 for Edgar Degas' grandmother. At the time, Bayou St. John, located just across the street, connected Lake Pontchartrain to the Mississippi and many plantations were established there. Pitot House is the only one that has survived. It was bought after its construction by the first mayor of New Orleans, James (Jacques for the French) Pitot, a Haitian slave who took refuge after the slave rebellion. Note that a walking tour is also offered in the vicinity of the bayou (reservation on the website).

Si vous n'avez pas le temps d'aller visiter les plantations en dehors de la ville, n'hésitez pas à venir ici, le modèle architectural est semblable. De plus la balade le long du bayou est sympathique.
