PRESERVATION HALL

Jazz club €€
4.8/5

Open since 1961, it is a mythical place in New Orleans. The setting is really the perfect cliché of the jazz club, as one imagines it. No drinks or food are served, and smoking, taking pictures or filming is prohibited. After waiting in line outside, in front of a building that seems to be almost falling apart, you enter a dark room made of wood and stone. This room is the home of the New Orleans style, a style that had to be preserved after the popular craze for rock'n'roll and modern jazz.

One of the best bars on Frenchmen, where bands come to play every night. Most of the time, the entrance is free, except when headliners play (usually 5 US$). If you pass by, you'll probably be among the many curious people wondering which musicians are playing. Drinks are really cheap, and there is always someone to talk to. Mostly known for its old school jazz, you'll probably see some of the regulars swing dancing.

Drinking a chicory latte with beignets is an old Louisiana tradition and the Cafe du Monde is a true institution. Whether your stay is short or long, it is a must. You could stand there for hours watching the people and the army of employees go by. The Cafe du Monde has been open since 1862, when it was established in the French Market, and it's always a pleasure to sit there. Note that this branch is usually open 24 hours a day, a schedule that should be reinstated soon.

Formerly known as the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, it is the stadium of the Saints, New Orleans' beloved American soccer team and member of the NFL. The Superdome, which welcomed the population after Katrina and whose images went around the world, is the largest stadium in the world with such a dome. The venue hosts a huge number of artistic and sports performances. Unfortunately, if you don't go to see one of them, you won't be able to go back just to visit it.
