The French Market has been an active shopping area since the founding of the city. The area near the river was devoted to the produce of neighboring farmers who came to sell their fresh fruits and vegetables, while many artisans set up shop on the other side. Today, a large part of the market has been converted to accommodate classic stores, cafes and restaurants. Part of the market is for tourists looking for more or less authentic souvenirs, not to mention the daily farmers' market.

Les fruits et légumes sont hors de prix. Le marché qui est dans le prolongement du marché de fruits et légumes vaut le coup d’œil. On y trouve même des pattes de crocodile...

J'ai surtout aimé le côté historique du French Market. On s'y sent un peu hors du temps et on prend le temps d'y flaner. Côté échoppes, on y trouve de quoi se restaurer, des souvenirs, des produits artisanaux locaux.
Sa proximité avec le reste du centre historique permet de s'y rendre aisément.

Voilà un marché coloré, bigarré avec ses échoppes présentant des souvenirs pour touristes, des produits artisanaux parfois originaux. Ambiance musicale garantie.
Il est bon d'y flâner avant de poursuivre dans le French Quarter.
