Monastery with Greco-Roman and medieval remains
Considered one of the most important in Europe, it is a remarkable example of monastic architecture built on Greco-Roman and medieval remains. It was rebuilt during the golden period of the Sicilian Baroque after the earthquake of 1693 by the best architects (A. Amato, F. Battglia and G. Vaccarini). Its beautiful façade has rich cornices at the windows. Today it houses the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy. The Vaccarini Hall (1739) is impressive.

Une visite très instructive
J'avais réservé une visite guidée du monastère et je ne l'ai pas regretté. Ma guide, Carmen, s'est montrée très enthousiaste et m'a donné beaucoup d'informations intéressantes ; ses explications étaient détaillées et très claires. J'ai aimé pouvoir accéder à des lieux inaccessibles au public. J'ai également visiter une deuxième fois le monastère seule (visite libre de certaines parties uniquement) ; ce monastère est un lieu vraiment atypique et son histoire est très intéressante. Je conseille également la visite panoramique de l'église attenante qui permet d'avoir de belles vues sur les alentours et également sur l'Etna.
