IGONGO CULTURAL CENTRE
The Igongo Cultural Centre is located on the same grounds as the Country Hotel. Here you will find a small but informative museum(Eriijukiro) dealing with the traditions, arts and history of south-western Uganda. The permanent exhibition shows the traditional habitat of the herders and farmers of the region, objects of daily life, hunting techniques, the cults, games and ceremonies that mark the days of the natives, the food and drinks (such asobushera) prepared and consumed by the locals... In addition, the cultural centre team offers a range of activities (between 15,000 and 30,000 Ush for each one; prior booking is required) focusing on the history and culture of southwest Uganda in general and Ankole in particular: Ankole Farm Tour, brewing of traditional beer, processing of millet and milk, etc. The first scientifically dated event in the history of the Great Lakes region, recounted in the oral traditions of three kingdoms (Buganda, Bunyoro and Ankolé), this eclipse is a historical landmark which, among other things, helps to determine the royal genealogies of this region of Africa. Finally, the centre has a souvenir shop that serves as a bookshop and reconstructed traditional huts. Enriching!
