SUPERMOON BAKEHOUSE
Read moreThe rival of the cronut (the famous halfway croissant/donut pastry created by French chef Dominique Ansel) is the cruffin, a cross between a croissant and a muffin that was born in this shop. It's good and rich as can be, so if you're on a diet and looking for something a little lighter, know that Supermoon also makes croissants. As long as you avoid the delicious ones that are double-filled, of course... The candy pink shop, with its BITE ME, NYC boxes stacked against the wall, is very cute.
FERRARA BAKERY & CAFE
Read moreThis Italian pastry shop was founded in 1892, and has never moved or closed since, even during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Today, Ferrara remains a family affair with fifth generation pastry chefs behind the stove. This institution claims to be the first espresso bar to open in the United States, we don't know if it's true, but in any case we love the authentic, no-frills setting and the rich cakes and ice cream. Try it at least once.
LE PETIT PARISIEN
Read moreLe Petit Parisien is your little corner of France in Harlem! Stop in for a viennoiserie and a good coffee. We appreciate the fact that the croissants and pains au chocolat are several dollars cheaper than in most French bakeries in New York. The place, all in length, is very warm, with its brick walls covered with paintings (if you have a crush on a painting, you can buy it!). For a more substantial hunger, the sandwiches are just right.

Venchi Chocolate
Read moreVenchi is one of New York's finest chocolatiers. The very first store opened in Turin in 1878, and since then the brand has only grown to over 120 stores worldwide. We love the seasonal product selections (the Christmas chocolate boxes are particularly pretty), and also the fact that the store has a nice selection of gelati. In addition to this charming store in the West Village, Venchi has six locations throughout the city, including one in each of the Eataly stores.
Albanese Meats & Poultry
Read moreOpen since 1923, this tiny shop in NoLIta is one of the last vestiges of the real Little Italy. Push open the door of this butcher's shop with its red façade and half-faded sign, and you'll take a leap back in time. Family photos and retro atmosphere guaranteed. Order from Jennifer Prezioso, the great-granddaughter of the original owners and granddaughter of Moe Albanese, nicknamed Moe the Butcher, a local celebrity who passed away in 2020 at age 90. The meats and Italian charcuterie are excellent.
BARACHOU
Read moreWell-known to French visitors to New York, Barachou is the temple of the cream puff. The star pastry comes in a multitude of delicious flavors: chocolate, vanilla and hazelnut for the classics, but also dulce de leche, rose and tiramisu for those with an adventurous spirit! The best thing is to order a small assortment to try out as many as possible... Trust us, you won't regret it! In the shop window, you'll also drool over the pretty fruit tarts, flans and macaroons.
