Museum for its ancient and classical art in Manhattan with a website to learn about temporary exhibitions

Rarely has a museum made so much noise before it opens. Inaugurated in March 2016, the Met Breuer is the contemporary art counterpart of the Met, famous for its ancient and classical art. What raised questions were the Met's motivations for opening this new museum at a time when competition in contemporary art is already very strong in New York. Noting that ancient art was attracting fewer and fewer donors - the main source of income for museums in the United States - and that the Met's finances were in the red, the museum director decided that the Met should open a branch dedicated to contemporary art in order to continue to receive generous donations from millionaires around the world. A bet that will have cost several tens of millions of dollars, to which must be added $17 million annually for maintenance and payroll. As a direct consequence of this investment, the budget for ancient art at the Met has been reduced and jobs have been cut, fuelling anger. So much for the history; let's get to art. The Met Breuer is a little bit of modern art and a lot of contemporary art. Since all exhibitions are temporary, check the museum website for information on the three or four themes or artists featured. The only constant is the relationship between the works of artists living alongside those of older movement artists. So we can see Jeff Koons and Leonardo da Vinci, Kerry James Marshall and Rembrandt side by side.
