Large naval and air museum on the Hudson River with a 250 m long aircraft carrier from 1943

The world's largest naval and air museum, located on the Hudson River, is well worth a visit. To fully appreciate it, it is better to go there in good weather, because part of what there is to see is outdoors. First we visit the USS Intrepid, an aircraft carrier that served during the Second World War and the Vietnam War, then used by NASA to recover space capsules. Transformed into a museum in 1982, this 1943 aircraft carrier is 250 m long. Inside, the 5-metre-high hangar houses part of the 20th century's history and the evolution of technology, illustrated by models, crew clothing, vehicles and interactive screens. Also worth seeing is the Super Tomcat, the largest dart shaped aircraft in the navy capable of reaching twice the speed of sound (Tom Cruise's in Top Gun). The destroyer USS Edson, from the Vietnam War, and the nuclear submarine USS Growler, a missile launcher, then visit each other on the other side of the pier. Discovering the living conditions of the men on board is fascinating. Young and old who dream of space will also get value for their money with the discovery (at an additional cost) of the first American space shuttle, Enterprise, which launched NASA's Space Shuttle program. The shuttle was in space several times in 1977 but was never finally put into orbit.
