American university with a green space ideal for jogging and a unique view of Manhattan on the Upper West Side
To discover a real campus and take a breath of fresh air on student territory, take the time to discover the prestigious Columbia University. Like a gigantic New York Sorbonne, one of the best American universities reigns supreme on the Upper West Side. Columbia University was founded in 1754 and is part of the Ivy League, which brings together the country's eight most prestigious and oldest universities, alongside Harvard and Brown, for example. As such, it is very selective, with an admission rate of no more than 7%! It was the scene of major demonstrations against the Vietnam War in the 1970s and, more recently, against the election of Donald Trump. Among the notable personalities who have frequented it are Barack Obama, Stanley Kubrick, Jake Gyllenhaal, Allen Ginsberg, etc. Built on a hill, the site offers a unique view of Manhattan from the Upper West Side. Feel free to take a look at Morningside Park, a green space just next door, full of students walking or jogging. The campus offers an atmosphere that contrasts with the rest of the city, with its students invading its perfectly maintained lawns, walking in groups, with books in hand, playing music or reciting poems in the cantonade. There are also buildings with imposing architecture such as the Butler Library, St. Paul's Chapel or the Low Memorial Library.
