Historic delicatessen in the New York Jewish community offering generous pastrami sandwiches.

You may remember the scene in the movie When Harry met Sally where Meg Ryan fakes an orgasm in the middle of a restaurant... Here you are! This huge delicatessen founded in 1888 is an institution of the New York Jewish community. It serves the most famous pastrami sandwiches in the city. Beware: they are huge. You take a ticket at the entrance (to be kept until your exit), then you head towards a counter, where an abundance of cold cuts awaits you. On the wall and on the ceiling, photos of celebrities who have passed through this place.

Incontournable

We were lunched at Katz, in this mythical" place dating back to 1888. It is nice and surprising. You can order to wear, or sit, or to sit to order. A large room "canteen" on the wall a multitude of pictures depicting the owners as well as various famous guests there having eaten and the sign indicating the precise place where the actors had assisi during filming "Quand Harry meets Sally"! We could not resist take their famous reuben with pastrami, cheese, sauerkraut, very good but very copious, difficult to finish it. The cheese cake also was good. Staff was nice but be careful not to lose ticket given to the entrance if not 50$ will be charged. It is a simple and unpretentious but we do not regret having been. That changes New york trendy places. It is to be at least once.
