CENTRE DE VISITEURS DE LAUJAR DE ANDARAX

Tourist office

The Laujar d'Andarax tourist information center is located in the Alpujarra almeriense region, close to the river of the same name. It highlights the importance of water resources in the Sierra Nevada national and nature parks. An exhibition inside the center presents this central theme. The region is criss-crossed by a vast hydrographic network fed by summer snowmelt, which naturally divides the Guadalquivir basin into northern and southern slopes. The abundant groundwater that gushes from springs and fountains has traditionally been used for irrigation, canals and terraced farming. This is one of the important legacies of Arab culture in this region, as well as the roots of Alpujarreña culture. The exhibition also highlights the imprint left by other peoples such as the Romans and Castilians. The geological history of this mountain range and an exhibition of minerals introduce visitors to the richness of mining and its exploitation throughout history. It also highlights the adaptations of the living beings that inhabit the Sierra Nevada, with a particular focus on endemism. From the Laujar lookout, visitors can admire a complete view of their immediate surroundings, paying particular attention to the villages of the region, their history and their natural and cultural heritage.
