Castle with a national parador overlooking the Guadalquivir Valley
Approximately 4 km west of the cathedral, swept by all winds, a quasi-impregnable defensive bastion dominates the city. The fortress, built in 1246 by Alhamar and conquered by King Ferdinand III who arranged it at its convenience, became the castle of Santa Catalina. Gt in 2010, it now houses a national parador, a real lookout overlooking the valley of the Guadalquivir, the ocean of olive groves and the bluish walls of Sierra. Without a vehicle, you can go by bus, departure plaza Jaén por la Paz every 30 minutes from 9 h 30 to 17 h 30, but it deposits you far enough or on foot (for the brave!) by taking a path that climbs (which climbs… many) facing Calle de Buenavista. The best thing is to take a taxi by sharing it.
Its restoration are admirable, you can visit a vibrant and wired for sound napoleonic prison, but the sly little minx mentions it attention that monte, monte!
You can even buy a lottery ticket in the chapel of Sainte Catherine, is luck. At the end of the promontory, at the foot of calvary view if Jaen and around is worth the trip.
