Renaissance style cathedral with a central silver tabernacle and 2 colossal organ cases

It was built on the location of the great mosque according to the desire of Isabelle la Catholique. The work began in 1523, but the last stone was asked only in 1704. The main architects were Diego de Kings and Alonso Cano. From its numerous facades, the oldest, Renaissance style is the one of the east (puerta del Colegio). It is the work of Diego de Kings, just like the northern facade and its two doors (puerta del Perdón and Puerta de San Jerónimo). Alonso Cano's main façade (1667) is in the south. Inside (which contrasts with the outside), we will notice five naves surrounded by chapels, with a ambulatory behind the Capilla Mayor. The brightness is particularly striking! The Capilla Mayor, in white and gold, is one of the pearls of Spanish architecture, with its splendid stained glass windows. A semi-circular plane is 45 m high. The central tabernacle is silver on a green marble basis. In the central nave there are two large body buffets. Maríana Pineda and Alonso Cano are buried there. In the evening, the Plaza Correo Viejo, near the, is often the framework for concerts or appointments by some young acrobats.

You enter the cathedral by a small door decorated with jasmine... and you think that it is a small cathedral. It it is nothing...when district is toured, you realise impressive building. It is also unmissable in the festivities of the city and especially for " the procesiones semanan santa" or parade in fraternities.
The cathedral also houses the tombs of the Catholic Monarchs, emblematic figures of the history of Spain.
