Inaugurated on July 30, 2014, after many years of waiting and delays, the metro currently links the university to the Martín Carpena Sports Palace (in the western part of the city) via two lines that converge in a V-shape, for a total of 12 km of traffic and 20 stations. It is now the second metro in the Andalusian region after Seville, and the seventh in Spain. Initially scheduled for 2017, completion of the entire project (14.8 km and 23 stations) has been postponed several times. As a result, traffic jams persist.
