An interesting collection of manuscripts on the history of the Mascarene Islands in the municipal library of Curepipe.
Built of ashlar and supported by 4 pillars, the municipal library was built in 1917 in an English neoclassical style thanks to a donation from the Carnegie Foundation of New York. It contains a valuable collection of ancient manuscripts on the history of this part of the world, including the only copy of the Code noir des Mascareignes. In addition to the statue of Abbé La Caille, who gave the island its first overall plan, the gardens house a bronze replica of Prosper d'Espinay's statue of Paul et Virginie.
