It is one of the most visited natural sites. The road lined with coffee trees leads first to a nice viewpoint on the Chamarel waterfall, the highest of the island. One kilometer further, we reach the site of the Seven Colors. The earth forms astonishing sheepskins of several chromatic shades which would be of volcanic origin: ashes exposed by the erosion and containing mineral oxides of various tones. The Terre des 7 Couleurs de Chamarel Geopark invites you to explore millions of years of history through the emblematic Terre de 7 Couleurs and the majestic Chamarel waterfall, a major attraction in Mauritius since the 1960s. The colorful Chamarel earths were discovered in 1879, and their origins can be traced back to ancient geoclimatic events. These unique formations are the result of the decomposition of basalt, with iron and aluminum oxides imparting stunning colors ranging from red to blue-violet .The geopark offers an immersive experience in geology, education and conservation, while promoting respect for the environment and local communities.
To make your visit even more enjoyable, you can stop for a snack or lunch break at the Coffee Shop. The restaurant's concept is based on the theme of the seven colors of the earth, and offers a warm culinary interlude in a relaxed setting. Le bus dépose à l'entrée, mais il faut le reprendre sur une autre route. Bien se renseigner.
