Located 55 km south-west of Kuala Terengganu, this man-made lake is a secluded and relaxing place, with cottages on either side of its shores. It is a prime destination for fishermen and nature lovers alike. Lake Kenyir was created in 1985 when a hydroelectric dam was built. Bordered by the states of Kelantan to the west and Pahang to the south, it is one of the gateways to Taman Negara National Park. In the morning, the mist rising lazily over the 340 islands is a magical sight. The best way to discover the lake is by canoe or on foot, avoiding the noisy, polluting houseboats.
