The fort, which is located just at the entrance of the village, dates from 1760 (after the destruction of the town by Vernon in 1739). It is quite surprising because the place is wild and has remained almost intact, its cannons still pointed on the bay. On the other side of the road, one can take a small sloping path to reach the Casa Fuerte de Santiago, the observation post of the fort still quite well preserved. From there, a magnificent view extends over the bay and the village.
