Just at the entrance to the village, Fort Santiago dates back to 1760 (after Vernon's destruction of the town in 1739). Surprisingly, this is a wilderness site that has remained virtually untouched, its cannons still pointed at the bay. On the other side of the road, you can take a short, steep path to the Casa Fuerte de Santiago, the fort's observation post, which is still quite well preserved. From here, a magnificent view extends over the bay and the village.
