CATEDRAL DE PANAMÁ VIEJO
The cathedral, and especially its 30 meter high tower, is the most emblematic and best preserved building of the ancient city. Originally made of wood, it was destroyed by fire in 1540 and rebuilt several times before being built in stone from 1619 to 1626. One of its characteristics is that it is located against the apse and faces the sea, with an orientation to the south, and not to the east, as was the rule at the time. An interior staircase of 115 steps leads up to a mirador, offering a beautiful panoramic view.
