Douentza is the main city between Mopti and Gao. It serves as a border between Dogon country and Gourma. Inhabited by Fulani, Dogon and Songhai, Douentza attracts more and more visitors. They are attracted to this part of Dogon country, which is still relatively little exploited by tourism, but also by the Réserve reserve, housing a population of three hundred and eighty elephants. Douentza is also located near the Far west of the Hombori region. Finally, facing the end of the cliff of Bandiagara, extends the immense plains of Macina, frequented by nomadic fulani pastors and their herds of zébus. A pretty market is held every Sunday.
