Bandiagara is the ideal starting point for tours on the plateau. Three tracks connect Bandiagara to the cliff. The first one joins Kani Kombolé via Djiguibombo (25 km), the second leads to Dourou (30 km) and the third leads to Sangha (45 km).Bandiagara, a place of circle, houses the various administrative services in Dogon Country. This big town has little to offer visitors. Points of interest refer to a few pretty buildings such as the Centre for research in traditional medicine (located at the exit of the city, on the road of Sangha) and the ruins of the palaces of the Toucouleur kings. The Toucouleur were in fact elected to Bandiagara during the conquest of the Macina by El Hadj Omar Tall. That's why, even though the city is situated in the Dogon plateau, the architecture is more toucouleur than Dogon. However, Bandiagara has the advantage of owning a few hotel structures. Beware! Bandiagara's guides are almost as painful as those of Mopti.
