TEMPLAR TUNNEL
The Templar quarter, southwest of Acre, was built by the Knights Templar in the second half of the 12th century. They built a fortress, the ruins of which are now covered by the sea. From this fortress a tunnel started under the Pisan quarter and ended at the port, east of the city. This tunnel was discovered in 1994 and part of it was opened to the public in 1999. Since 2007, the initial 350 m of tunnel have been completely cleared. Entrance near the port, south-east of the old town or near the present lighthouse.
