The peninsula of Cape Verde is becoming increasingly famous for divers. Here, no coral, but wide gorgonia, lots of fish, small and big, and some interesting shipwrecks. On the other hand, Océanium is a very active association in the protecion of the marine environment. Awareness campaigns, actions for the observance of reproductive periods, the fight against marine pollution, protection of endangered species, the eradication of poor fishing techniques, the creation of marine protected areas form part of the Association's actions. In addition, Océanium has embarked on reforestation programmes of mangrove forests to revive mangrove and fruit species in order to provide additional income to local populations.
