One of the most visited sites of the Cantal with an exceptional Renaissance heritage at an altitude of 950 meters located in Salers.
If the history of the city goes back to the Middle Ages, it accelerates when Henri II installs there the royal bailiwick of the High Mountains of Auvergne in 1550 (until the Revolution). The "gens de robe" built private mansions with Renaissance facades that you will discover along the streets, after having admired the house of the Bailiwick, place Tissandier-d'Escous. Salers also owes its prosperity to the wool, cheese and mule trade. The town has given its name to a breed of cow, the Salers, as well as to a cheese and a gentian-based liqueur.
