Loreto, also called "La Madre de las Californias", is the oldest village in Baja California. The surrounding landscapes are splendid: the mountains of the Sierra Giganta, covered with cactus, face a dark blue sea dotted with islands, today gathered in a national maritime park. While Loreto is a village with a pretty square lined with a few historic buildings, a new modern tourist centre has recently been built a little further south in Napolo (Loreto Bay). A little further away, Puerto Escondido is a very pretty natural harbour where many yachts come to anchor.
