Madidi National Park, declared a reserve by the Bolivian government in 1995, covers an area of almost 1,900,000 ha. It shelters about 1 250 species of birds, reptiles like the anaconda and the boa, felines like the puma and the jaguar, various species of monkeys, crocodiles, and especially 20 000 species of plants! Crossed by the basins of the Madidi and Tuichi rivers, the park is adjacent to the Tampopata National Reserve in Peru. Several community tourism options are available. The gateway to the park, El Bala, is located one hour by boat from Rurrenabaque. The entrance ticket costs 200 Bs per person.
