Distillery still powered by steam, offering a historical and romantic tour, and rum tasting in the store.
The Longueteau distillery has been based in Capesterre-Belle-Eau since 1895. The rum is distributed under two brands: Longueteau rum and Papillon rum. Two brands that present two different aromatic universes. A visit to this estate is interesting not only from a historical point of view, but also from a romantic one: Christopher Columbus is said to have landed just a stone's throw away in 1493, giving the site a heritage aspect. You can also discover the history of this estate in the company of its friendly guides. During the sugar crisis at the end of the 19th century, the owner, the Marquis de Sainte-Marie, took up gambling, but to no avail. He was forced to sell his property, which became the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie estate.
From 1895 onwards, Henri Longueteau transformed the former sugar refinery to produce agricultural rum. Since then, four generations have succeeded him in this adventure. The Longueteau distillery is the oldest family-run agricultural rum distillery in Guadeloupe. Each generation has retained its love of the land, its respect for family know-how, its commitment to product quality and its passion for agricultural rum. At the end of the visit, a tasting of this delicious agricultural rum is offered in the boutique. Reservations are strongly recommended (directly on the site), as the number of places is limited. You can also visit the estate and take part in an introduction to the art of blending to create your own cuvée.
