LES ILES DE VOUGY
The islands of Vougy offer a set of 5 units showing the diversity of the river banks.
This natural area represents 10% of the commune of Vougy. A Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest to be preserved from land and industrial pressure in a valley of the Arve where the soil is too artificial. Here, the river still flows freely and nature has regained its rights. The Vougy islands, accessible to walkers with signs and signposts for a walking trail, offer a set of 5 units showing the diversity of the river banks: the running water areas of the Arve, the stagnant water areas, the softwood forests, the hardwood forests and the dry terraces. Several rare or protected species frequent the site, such as the kingfisher or the small gravelot and the European beaver. On the plant side, the small reed, a type of reed, and the ophioglossa vulgaris, a rare fern, are protected.
