MEMORY OF THE MAQUIS
Inaugurated on 18 June 2009, the historic and cultural reception building Memory of the Maquis, faces the Monument National de la Résistance, a sculpture made by the artist Emile Gilioli and inaugurated in 1973 by the Association des Princes des Des, whose Association of Glières has taken over since then. The Memory of the Maquis area is managed by the Memory and Citizenship Service of the General Council of Haute-Savoie. It combines all the information with historical content of the Site site (the Plateau plateau and the Site site at the Balme de Thuy-Thônes) and other sites devoted to the history of the Resistance. Memory of the Maquis is a multimedia space equipped with interactive terminals and a projection room which presents, among other things, the film Living Free or Die, a historical evocation of the Glières of 52 minutes. Different types of guided tours are proposed: a two-hour historical trail in tribute to the fighters (Tom Morel Trail), accessible to everyone, as well as a historical reconstruction (44 minutes) of the fighting of 1944, around the Monument with a visit from inside. An exciting dive in the history of resistance during the Second World War! The visit continues on another site dedicated to Glières, the site of Morette: a necropolis and a national Museum of Resistance and Deportation (near Thônes).
